What is Aurora?
Aurora is fiber optics.
Fiber optics are hair-thin strands of glass, used to carry light waves over tremendous distances. Fiber optic lines outperform traditional copper lines in every way by transmitting data over longer distances with very low signal degradation.
HickoryTel began the process of replacing existing lines with fiber optics in 2012, calling the new fiber to the home (FTTH) service “Aurora”, in reference to light. The extensive process was completed in 2020, with Aurora FTTH service available to our entire subscriber base.
